The competition will be played using the Swiss system. Every game will be given a 90-minute time limit every 40 moves, plus an additional 30 minutes after the 40th move, in 30-second increments. A player may request a draw at any time while the game is still in progress.

Each team will play another team in a four-on-four matchup over the course of 11 rounds. One name from each team may be submitted for the reserve roster. Based on the match points they have accrued in each round, teams will be graded. The tie-breaker will be determined by a number of factors when two or more teams have the same number of match points.

Chess Olympiad 2022 Day 1 Events, Results, Winners, And Day 2 Schedule

Levon Aronian almost had a terrible team debut for the USA, but a well-timed draw offer against IM David Silva of Angola let him to escape. The most common score of the day was 4:0, which was the score by which all six Indian teams won their opening matches. Despite Aronian’s draw, the other players of USA produced some amazing play and helped the top-seeded USA team win 3.5-0.5.

Large strength disparities were present on Day 1 of the Olympiad, so it was expected that the favorites would prevail. The fact that they accomplished it in every game and by a huge margin caught everyone off guard, though. In the Open section, 76 out of 92 games resulted in victories by a score of 4-0, while in the Women’s section, the portion was even higher: 70 out of 79 games.

There was some drama, but all three India teams triumphed 4:0 in both the Open and Women’s divisions. Tajikistan was playing well with the white pieces, and even though Humpy Koneru was able to change the situation and outplay her opponent tactically, Tania Sachdev was forced to lose to the underrated Rukhshona Saidova.

So the favorites got it through the first round of the Olympics without incident, but once the bigger teams start to compete, things will get lot more intriguing. Given that Georg Meier currently plays for Uruguay, who will face Norway’s opponents, Carlsen-Meier might be an intriguing matchup in Saturday’s Round 2 assuming both play.

Third-seed Georgia defeated Iraq 4-0, while second-ranked Ukraine destroyed South Africa 4-0. Without its best player Magnus Carlsen, Norway defeated Lebanon 4-0. Meanwhile, the three Indian teams competing in the men’s competition defeated South Sudan, Zimbabwe, and the United Arab Emirates in their respective first-round matches.

Vidit Gujrathi, Arjun Erigaisi, SL Narayanan, and K Sasikiran all won for the star-studded “A” team, which is ranked second after the dominant US side.
In a Sicilian Defence match that lasted 41 moves, Raunak Sadhwani of the India B squad was the first player to triumph with the White pieces over Abdulrahman M.
