50-year-old Tou Ger Xiong was born in Laos in 1973. Xiong’s early life was marked by hardship, with his family fleeing Laos in 1975 after his father’s involvement in the Secret War.

The subsequent years saw the Xiong family residing in a refugee camp in Thailand for four years before making their way to the United States.

Settling in St. Paul, Minnesota, Xiong attended Humboldt High School and then went to Carleton College where he earned a degree in political science.

While at Carleton, Xiong began exploring his passion for comedy, performing in stand-up shows that reflected his unique perspective on life. His approach was rooted in “celebrating cultural diversity through laughter,” a philosophy that would become a hallmark of his career.

Beyond the stage, Xiong also showcased his talents in the 1997 TV movie, “Portraits from the Cloth,” portraying a Hmong family’s journey during wartime.

In 2011, he married Andrea Bennett who is a women’s rights advocate. She was crowned Mrs. Minnesota International in 2013. Their union reflected a shared commitment to making a positive impact. However, life took its turns, and the couple parted ways in 2019.
