According to Sherwood’s obituary, he “was influential” in the creating the popular 2010 Edgar Wright’s cult movie adaptation, Scott Pilgrim vs the world.

The movie starred Michael Cera and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Scott Pilgrim and Ramona Flowers respectively. The plot of the movie revolves around Cera’s character battling his seven evil exes while on his quest to date Ramona.

Douglas Sherwood was a notable part of the production team for popular Netflix show, ‘Scott Pilgrim Takes Off’ who passed away earlier this year. He was born on September 3, 1984, and he was just 39 years old at the time of his passing. Even before working on the animated show, Sherwood has played a substantial role in the Scott Pilgrim franchise for several years now. According to reports, Sherwood worked as a production assistant for the last two volumes of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s graphic novels. He worked on both Scott Pilgrim vs The Universe as well as Scott Pilgrim’s Finest Hour.

Just after the final moments of the first season of the Netflix anime series, a touching tribute card that reads “to our friend Doug Sherwood” appears on the screen.

Career

Sherwood worked in film-making for over 12 years, in several roles including a letterer, production artist, editor, and curator. Moreover, he also held several different positions at Oni Press, an independent comic publisher. It was while working here that he contributed to Scott Pilgrim, Petrograd, and Wasteland. During his time there, he also led a fundraiser benefitting the Hemophilia Foundation of Oregon. The fundraiser gained a donation worth over $5,000.

Cause of death

Douglas Sherwood passed away earlier this year on January 23, 2023 and according to reports, Doug Sherwood was diagnosed with severe hemophilia B at very young age. Hemophilia B is a chronic condition which develops due to a lack of the blood clotting Factor IX.
