Evaline Finlay Gomila family, education, and career
Evaline Finlay Gomila is a young 21-year-old student who is studying at the University of Virginia. Finlay was born to Gwathmey and Moylan Gomila. Her father rides with Rex every year as a lieutenant while Gomila is a computer science expert who also has a minor in the subject of economics.
She wants to start working for a bank in the city of Washington, D.C., specializing in business analytics when she will graduate from Virginia this spring. This honor she has received is a privilege for someone who already supports others in her community, both in Charlottesville and New Orleans. Being chosen as the Queen will encourage her to work even more on the behalf of Rex’s humanitarian cause.
Evaline recalled the day when her parents informed her that she was given the title of Queen while they were riding horses in Virginia.

She stated ‘He was holding his Rex lieutenant’s crop with the purple, green, and gold ribbons and a little gold crown tied onto it, and I just sort of stared. I didn’t get why he brought that all the way up from New Orleans. And, eventually, he said, ‘You are going to be the Queen of Carnival,’ and it was so exciting and fun. A special memory.”
Gomila is working on making her gown for the Rex ball after knowing that she will be the new Queen. She thanked a designer who has been located in New Orleans as he is helping her out in the making of her dream gown.
Gomila also expressed her sadness about wearing that gown just once which she has designed. She further continued, “But I’m going to make one of the best of it, and it’ll be an amazing night.
