As seen in Michael Wadleigh’s Academy Award-winning documentary, the youthful concert producer was only 24 years old in August 1969 when he essentially became the “face of the festival.” He’s riding a motorcycle through the backstage areas with a broad smile and curly hair.

An article published in The New York Times on January 8, 2022, reported Michael died at 77. Non-Hodgkin lymphoma caused his death in a hospital in Manhattan. Along with the considerable wealth he amassed throughout his career, the 1999 music festival he organized is thought to have brought in a sizable sum of money.
