Tyre Nichols relationship
In January of 2023, the death of a Black man in Memphis, Tennessee after being beaten by police officials resulted in a flurry of unsubstantiated rumors online. One rumor has stated, ‘Black man Tyre Nichols who died was dating the partner of a cop charged in his murder.’
On the 30th of January, 2023, a number of tweets and memes went viral, claiming that Haley and Nichols were connected before the assault, and it was allegedly through Haley’s ex-girlfriend or ex-wife.
One tweet from @Sirmaejor, a purported civil rights activist, stated, “BREAKING NEWS: I am being told that Tyre Nichols was in a relationship and worked at a Memphis @FedEx with #MemphisPolice Demetrius Halys’s ex-girlfriend and baby mama. After the beating Officer Halys took photos of # TyreNichols’ face and sent it to his baby-mama.”
Another Instagram has claimed that the whole confrontation is “behind a woman” and repeated the claims.

The posts make a number of claims, including that Nichols was physically involved with the ex-wife or former partner of Demetrius Haley, the police officers involved in his assault, a woman who also has shares a child with Haley. The identity of the woman Tyre was allegedly having sex with is not known.
The posts claim Nichols and unknown the woman has worked together at a FedEx facility in Memphis where Tyre was a supply chain team member. They have added that during or after beating Haley, Demetrius took photographs of Nichols’ injured face and then texted them to the woman. No one still knows the identity of the woman who people are claiming is the center of this incident.
CBS News has reported, ‘Nichols did work at FedEx based in Memphis. He was father of the young boy. On the night of the attack, Nichols was returning home from a suburban park, where Nichols had taken photographs of sunset, as per his family’s legal team and the team added that five police officers beat him for around three minutes straight.’
None of the speculation online has been confirmed from official sources.
